The Memorial Design
The Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial will be consist of a
curved, three wall panel and be sited facing the access road to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and State Patrol Academy in Grand Island, Nebraska. Its curve will hug the west side of the Training Center complex. The primary material, black absolute granite, was chosen both for its longevity and its beauty. This particular stone is easy to maintain and will impart dignity and a feeling of permanence to the Memorial. The engraved names will be spread over these walls
and printed key, as well as tracing paper and a soft pencil, will be provided to visitors who wish to make a rubbing. Why Grand Island? Located outside downtown Grand Island, the site is home to the state's primary training center for many branches of law enforcement, the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and State Patrol Academy. It is here that men and women learn the skills and protocol that will accompany them throughout their careers in law enforcement. The Memorial will be more than a static, granite symbol, but rather is designed to be a gathering place for survivors and friends, a place where people can heal. Making it Happen Planning for the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial began several years ago, and two companies have been with us throughout, helping to shape the design and working with us to make it a reality. Our many thanks to Davis Design, for their planning of the Memorial, and to Kingery Construction, who has helped with planning and will construct the Memorial.
